This begins a 2-part series on winter weather, because we all know, brrrr! It’s cold outside. Winter weather can be tricky and sometimes downright dangerous! Over the next couple of weeks we’ll cover how to stay safe during the winter months as well as how to have fun in the winter! Isn’t that the best part? But to begin, safety first!
- Be prepared. There is nothing worse than being stuck in the cold without the right clothing on to protect you from the weather. Always make sure to have a coat at the very least and add more warm items depending on the temperature. Even if you think the weather will be fine, a quick change in temperature can leave you shivering and regretful.
- Time management. Give yourself extra time when traveling in weather like snow. The roads will be harder to navigate and traffic will most likely be slow. Don’t force yourself into rushing somewhere last minute and potentially put yourself or other drivers at risk.
- Keep an emergency kit in your car in case you get stuck. Include things like snacks, a flashlight, a blanket (or two) and a shovel etc. No one wants to get stuck on the side of the road in a winter storm, but if you do, being ready will help it go by so much faster and easier until help gets there!
- Bring in your pets! We’ve all heard “If you’re cold, they’re cold too” and it’s true! Don’t leave Fido outside in the cold because you think his fur will protect him; bring him inside with the rest of the family to keep warm and safe this winter season.
Winter may not be the favorite time of year for everyone, but the most important thing to remember is to be prepared! Being ready for anything will make life a lot easier during the winter months.
